Homemade Rainbow Crayons
Do you have lots of little, broken crayons in your house? Do you think it is a waste to just throw these crayons away? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, then it is time to make some homemade rainbow crayons! To do this, you'll need lots of broken crayon pieces, clean, empty tin cans, a pot of boiling water, a potholder, and several small containers (empty film canisters, prescription medicine bottles, and play-dough molds work well). The first step is to sort the crayons by color and take all the paper off of them. You should have one tin can for each color you want to use. Next, with an adult's help, boil a pot of water and put the tin cans in until the crayons have melted. Then, have an adult use a potholder and pour the first color in the small container and put it in the freezer to harden. After it is firm, pour the next color in and repeat the steps until you have used all the colors. To get the crayons out of their containers, you can put them in the freezer for several minutes or longer if needed. Then, take them out and gently tap on the bottom of the container.
